About KenTuna

KenTuna is a company operating within the Kenyan seafood market to link responsibly caught tuna and other seafood products to high end consumers. The company specializes in supplying high-quality freshly frozen seafood to retailers and ethical customers. KenTuna specifically aims to improve the quality & accessibility of seafood offered to customers country wide. This is achieved primarily through the training of local fishermen, in fish handling & storage practices, the enabling provision of required equipment and implementing strict operating guidelines within the cold chain that can supply quality products to end consumers via KenTuna’s growing logistical networks. KenTuna sources 100% of its products from artisanal small-scale commercial fishermen (locally known as “Dinghy fishermen”) that harvest using sustainable one-by-one fishing methods along the Kenyan coast. KenTuna mainly processes tuna loins, however other high value pelagics such as Kingfish, Wahoo, Snapper Dorado and Crustaceans are also processed by KenTuna to provide maximum value to the local fishermen for their daily catches.

Lot Numbering System

Each fish we purchase is assigned a unique lot number and indicates the particular supplier and the date of purchase. The lot number is tracked through the manufacturing process, and delivery to each customer. This allows us to track every package for safety and security.

Sourcing

Key to KenTuna’s philosophy is supporting sustainable fishing practices. We only buy line caught fish, be it by artisanal fishermen using hand lines or on conventional rod and reels. The other seafood products are purchased from suppliers who have been vetted and use sustainable means to catch their products. We also provide our fishermen with ice free of charge, so that they can maintain the quality of their catch until it reaches our processing facility. Only the best fish is purchased to ensure the finest finished products are sent out to customers.
